The world’s richest two-year old race, the $3.5million AAMI Golden Slipper will be run next Saturday at Rose Hill Gardens.

As early as July 2009, this race had attracted 1799 nominations and on Saturday only 16 juveniles will line up for the 2yo’s 1200 m race.

The Golden Slipper Stakes was first won by Todman in 1957. Shane Dye, the stable rider for the Rousset stable has one of the most impressive records in this race, with four consecutive wins: Courtza in 1989, Canny Lad in 1990, Tierce in 1991 and Burst in 1991.

Renowned Sydney trainer, Gai Waterhouse who has already won 3 Golden Slipper will try to close the gap on her father’s record. Her father, the legendary trainer, Tommy Smith has won the race six times. But Brightexpectations, the Waterhouse-trained flyer will have a difficult task next Saturday against the like of Military Rose, (favourite at 3/1) trained by another lady, Gillian Hendrich from  Brisbane.

Has the master-trainer, Bart Cummings already found a staying star in Precedence who won impressively on Saturday? Will this stayer give him his 13th Melbourne Cup? We’ll find out on the first Tuesday of November….
