The Stewards, in consultation with trainer S. Narang, allowed jockey Khathi to ride Jack Dempsey at ½ kg overweight. Jockey Khathi pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 111 (3) in that he accepted a ride whilst he was overweight. He was fined Rs.10,000.

Jack Dempsey was slow to begin, losing some ground. Shortly after the start Wing Man was taken back to race back in the field. The saddle on Bridegroom Bertie slipped forward shortly after the start placing the rider in difficulty throughout the race. Near the 1200 metres, when the pace slowed, Aficionado shifted away from the heels of Saarikh. Wing Man shifted outwards passing the 900 metres. Trainer C. Daby was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of Aficionado. Mr. Daby explained that Aficionado had shown improvement at track work since its last run on 17 June 2017 and today over 1850 metres and with the small and weak field and a stronger jockey, he expected an improved performance.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Aficionado after the race.

Glorious Goodwood was slow into stride. Criss Cross Man raced wide in the early stages, getting cover near the 900 metres. Passing the 100 metres Glorious Goodwood lay outwards and was straightened by its rider. When questioned regarding the riding instructions of Rumbullion, Trainer S. Jones explained that he had instructed jockey B. Bhaugeerothee from its good barrier position to jump well and go forward as, in his opinion, Rumbullion has natural gate speed and he wanted to take a forward position. He further explained that this is the racing pattern best suited to the gelding and on past occasions, due to poor barrier draws, he was not able to do this. Mr. Jones explained that wherever possible this would be the racing pattern of Rumbullion. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that All Magic suffered a bleeding attack

Moi Power commenced to over-race in the middle stages and shifted outwards away from the heels of Maestro’s Salute, carrying Our Jet wide. Our Jet raced wide from then onwards. At the turn into the home straight Melson, which was travelling well, clipped the heels of Moi Power and shifted outwards quickly with Nordic Storm restraining. Leaving the 150 metres Our Jet, when struck with the whip, lay inwards quickly, making contact with Moi Power, unbalancing that gelding which then shifted in and slightly inconvenienced Maestro’s Salute. On inquiry, the Stewards accepted that jockey Ghunowa (Our Jet) had stopped and attempted to straighten his mount when it shifted in quickly near the 150 metres and accordingly proceeded no further with the inquiry. Nordic Storm was held up near the 75 metres and shifted out to obtain clear running. Near the 75 metres Melson was held up behind Act Of Loyalty and shifted out to obtain clear running. Acting on veterinary advice that the near fore fetlock of What’s News was swollen, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.30 p.m. today. In view of this, all bets on What’s News were ordered to be refunded and winning bets with bookmakers were paid less 3 cents per rupee, the average price of What’s News being 24-1.

Caracal stood flat-footed, losing ground at the start. Mojo G shifted outwards on jumping, carrying Marine Sky onto Ramaas. Logan was slow into stride. Craftsman raced wide throughout. Near the 1000 metres Marine Sky commenced to over-race and shifted out, carrying Logan wider on the track. Marine Sky made the turn into the straight wide. Leaving the 200 metres Mojo G lay inwards, holding Newsman tight. Shortly after this Newsman commenced to hang outwards and eventually made contact with Mojo G on its outside. Jockey Sooful (Newsman) was shown the video replay of this part of the race and told that in future he is to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they start to hang. Passing the 150 metres St Arnault lay inwards, carrying Ramaas in as Logan angled outwards for a clear run. In this incident Ramaas, which was tiring, was inconvenienced. Jockey Bardottier (St Arnault) was reprimanded for not making a greater effort to keep his mount straight. Jockey Khathi (Logan) was reminded that he is to ensure he is clear when shifting ground. Leaving the 150 metres Caracal, which had improved to the inside of Roy’s Express, steadied when that horse rolled inwards. Jockey Vaibhav (Roy’s Express) was told that he is to make every effort to keep his mount straight. When questioned regarding the apparent disappointing performance of St Arnault, jockey Bardottier explained that his mount had travelled well in the early and middle stages but passing the 450 metres, when placed under pressure, the gelding had failed to quicken and commenced to tire, as such the gelding had been disappointing.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Logan after the race.
