Ice cool or stupid? Balls of steel or a bellend?
They were the opinions being expressed by punters of Oisin Murphy following his ride aboard Sir Pass I Am at Chepstow on Tuesday.
Murphy came within a neck of an enforced holiday (and a lengthy one at that) when he severely eased up on the well-backed 3/1 favourite with a furlong to go after getting out to an eight-length lead.
The big lead dissipated very quickly over the final 50m as My Mo and Cold Fusion made a late charge.
All’s well that ends well as they say though, with Sir Pass I Am holding on for a narrow victory.
The incident failed to rate a mention in the stewards’ report of the race.
Murphy had a three-month stint in Australia as an apprentice back in 2013/14 where he principally rode for Danny O’Brien.
