Chautauqua's win in last Saturday's Group I TJ Smith Stakes had to be seen to be believed – the same could be said about the in-play fluctuations.
Shooting for an unprecedented third TJ Smith Stakes, Chautauqua jumped at $8.47 with online betting exchange Betfair.
Once the field of 15 had sorted their positions, Chautauqua was a conspicuous last and trading at $22 by the 800-metre mark.
But that wasn't even close to the top fluctuation.
After oscillating between his approximate starting price and a peak of $100 between the 600 metres and 250 metres, Chautauqua's odds rocketed up to $800 when still four lengths off eventual runner-up English at the 100 metres.
As the gelding cut back the margin in next to no time, his odds plummeted to $6 (50m), then $4.10 (25m) before a last matched bet at $1.02.
