Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) stewards have fined the trainer of a horse that found significant improvement to win at cricket-score odds at Rockhampton on Sunday.

Stylish Criminal had finished unplaced in 11 previous runs before stunning punters in the 1400m the Coaltrain QTIS 3YO Handicap (1400m) at an official starting price of $151, while on Betfair, as much as $459.78 was matched.

When questioned by stewards about Stylish Criminal’s improved performance, trainer John Pointon revealed that the filly had received treatment for a virus that was believed to have affected her 10th place finish in a 1300m event at Rockhampton on June 9.

As Pointon had failed to advise stewards of this information prior to Stylish Criminal’s engagement on Sunday, he was fined $200.
