1st Race (0-25)

#7 THE BORDER WAR makes his debut for Ricky Maingard’s yard. In preparation mode since February, he has progressed significantly and can strike at the first time of asking. #3 Dickie Bird also makes his debut in this race. Trained by Preetam Daby, he has shown promise at track work, even winning a barrier trial. His wide draw is a concern, but he is capable of overcoming that to be in the finish. #4 Jet Path did not confirm his promising debut last time out. Entered in a lower category, he should be competitive right from the off-set. For the lower placings, #1 Emerald Victory, who is new to Praveen Nagadoo’s yard, and #2 A P Strike are good bets.

Dangers: #4 Jet Path, #3 Dickie Bird, #1 Emerald Victory

2nd Race (B.36)

#1 JALS TIGER had no problems in outclassing the opposition two meetings ago. Still in good order, he is taken to confirm. #4 Swinging Captain showed improvement in his latest, finishing runner-up to Ouzo. He always tries his best and he can give the favourite something to think about. #7 Imperial Dancer did not disgrace himself in his last two attempts. He is down a Benchmark and with the in-form Jameer Allyhosain on board, he should go close. #8 Euroklidon has done nothing wrong so far this season. If he manages to dictate terms, he will be hard to catch. #2 Pop The Question has not come close to repeating his win in his seasonal debut. He did show progress in his recent outing and should be thereabouts in this.

Top Tip: #1 JALS TIGER

Dangers: #4 Swinging Captain, #7 Imperial Dancer, #8 Euroklidon

3rd Race (B.41)

#4 OUZO struck brilliantly in the 16th meeting, opening his Mauritian account in the process. He has continued to progress and he can confirm. #8 Heart Of Darkness has been a transformed horse in 2018, winning twice and finishing on the podium once. Even in a higher Benchmark, he is capable of making it once again. #10 Secret Idea opened his account for the season on Barbe Cup day. He will try his luck in an upper class, but he still merits consideration. #1 Northern Rebel will appreciate this category and should run on improvement, while debutant #7 Come On Sonny is a promising newcomer and must be watched very closely.

Top Tip: #4 OUZO

Dangers: #8 Heart Of Darkness, #10 Secret Idea, #1 Northern Rebel

4th Race (B.46)

#5 WALL TAG produced a cracking debut in the 15th meeting, overcoming his wide draw to make a direct visit to the winner’s enclosure. In excellent condition, he has drawn perfectly and is taken to confirm. #8 Galtero showed his true abilities in his previous attempt, even if he was second best to Captain Ram. Freshened up, his trainer has used his Trump Card to enter him here, and a big run is forthcoming from him. #3 Friend Request has raced sparingly in his debut season, winning on his debut and finishing 4th and 2nd in his last two follow ups respectively. He appears to be back to full fitness and he won’t be far away in this. #1 Choir Of Angels makes his debut for Patrick Merven’s yard. He has worked well and can be in the lower placings here.

Top Tip: #5 WALL TAG

Dangers: #8 Galtero, #3 Friend Request, #1 Choir Of Angels

5th Race (B.56)

#1 IDEAL SECRET landed 3rd in his debut over a trip too sharp for its aptitude. Having benefited from that run, he will relish the longer trip and from his pole position draw, he can run a cracker. #10 Racing For Fun just failed to make it two in-a-row in his latest. From a good draw, he should be prominent throughout and it won’t be a surprise to see him bounce back. #6 The Right Road did just about enough to take his first win last time out. He remains well and is not prevented from doubling the score in this. #7 Ice Run comes into this race on the back of an excellent win in his last attempt. He is running in a higher category this time round, but nevertheless, he can make it, particularly if he dictates proceedings. Similar comments apply to #3 Answeringenesis, who also struck in his latest, while #1 Bonnie Prince is down a Benchmark and warrants respect, even if he has been drawn widest of all.

Dangers: #10 Racing For Fun, #1 Bonnie Prince, #6 The Right Road

6th Race – The Hinterland Cup (Group 3)

The vote is given to #3 NOTTINGHAMSHIRE in this Group 3 contest. He is in the form of his life and is taken to make it four in-a-row. #9 Yankee Captain is rated as his biggest danger. He has done everything right in his debut season so far. He has been drawn in the ace and his chances are more than legitimate. A case can be made for #5 Budapest, whose last run must be consigned to the dustbin. He was very impressive in his workouts and with Jameer Allyhosain on board, he should be up there. #10 Victory Team has come out very well from his run in the Lightning Cup. It won’t be a surprise to see him contest the finish here. #2 Ernie is far better than what he served up in his latest. With a strong pace expected, he will be a big threat in the closing stages. #4 Prince Of Thieves and #1 Nordic Warrior are two interesting outsiders.

Dangers: #9 Yankee Captain, #5 Budapest, #2 Ernie

7th Race (B.31)

Since taking a last-gasp win on Maiden Cup day last season, #1 JULLIDAR has raced 8 times, finishing runner-up six times. He remains in good nick and he can finally make it count here. #5 Kapteinspandiseile justified his status as favourite in the Barbe Cup meeting. A consistent performer, he is down a category and is capable of confirming even from his bad draw. #10 Bear Hug showed bags of improvement just two meetings ago, even counting into the fact that he was incommoded at the end. Based on that showing, he should go close. #9 Uncle JB has been performing honestly in his last few races and is worth a thought, while #2 Kimberley and #6 Nightingale Lane are not without their chances in this.

Top Tip: #1 JULLIDAR

Dangers: #5 Kapteinspandiseile, #2 Kimberley, #10 Bear Hug

8th Race (0-20)

Not much to choose from in this final contest of the day, although 7 KASH IS KING looks the one to side with here. This Preetam Daby-trained gelding finished strongly in his latest, landing 4th place in the process. He has drawn well and he has a genuine chance here. #4 Halabaloo has been honest in his performances so far this season. He can give the selection a real run for his money here. #1 Sea Pass was not disgraced in his previous outing, especially in Benchmark 31. Now under the tutelage of Simon Jones, he will appreciate running in this category and he should be thereabouts. #10 Anafesto has been freshened up and with Juan Paul van derMerwe riding him for the first time, he must be watched closely, while #8 Wing Man and #3 Spun Out are solid place contenders.

Top Tip: #7 KASH IS KING

Dangers: #4 Halabaloo, #1 Sea Pass, #10 Anafesto
